My daughter, Zoey, recently ran up to me with her blankies in her hands. They were all rolled up in a ball. She said, "Here you go Mommy! It's a present for you!" I gasped and excitedly asked her, "I wonder what's in there?" She told me, "Pretty flowers in there for you Mommy!" I unwrapped the blankets to find she had picked a few dandelions for me. "Wow!" What am I going to do with these?" I asked her.
Grandma B. suggested I thow them in the G.A.R.B.A.G.E. She spelled it out, as not to hurt poor Zoey's feelings. Yet, after a few moments of discussion, it was mentioned that some people make tea from their dandelions. So, I figured, what could be more fun them making some dandelion tea?
I took to the net and found all types of ways to make a cup of dandelion tea. Dandelions are incredibly good for you. It turns out that you can make tea from the greens, the stems, the blossoms and even the roots of the dandelion. Tea aside, dandelions make a great addition to salads too!
For our tea, we simply:
1. rinsed the dandelion blossoms, stems, and greens
2. chopped them up
3. threw them in our ForLife brew-in-mug extra-fine tea infuser with lid
4. Poured in some boiling water
5. let steep for 5 minutes
I enjoyed the flavor of this tea without adding any lemon or honey. But, I hear it's great with honey and lemon too.
Zoey was so shocked to watch me prepare the "flowers" for making tea. It was such a blast to see her so interested in what I was doing. Now, when we are outside and she sees dandelions, she wants to make tea. Oh! And one last thing. If you are planning on trying this tea for yourself, don't use dandelions that have been sprayed with a pesticide. That would be bad.
