Saturdays are very important days. It is the one day a week that I get to spend quality time with my monkeys. It is our time alone together while daddy works. I like to make Saturdays a special day filled with fun activities. This Saturday happened to be wonderfully warm outside and I had originally planned to spend the morning at a forrest preserve near my brothers house. To my surprise, when I called my brother to see if he'd like to meet up, he said, "We're at Brookfield Zoo!" So... since we have a pass to the zoo, I decided we'd go there instead! It's fun and free!
Zoey is a little shy and can be slow to warm up. So for a good hour-or-so, she stayed in her stroller, gripping her receiving blanket and her "water" bottle. These two items are her comfort items.
We met up with Cousin Kyle and Uncle Jon at The Living Seas. It wasn't long before Liam, Auntie Michelle, Auntie Janelle and Allie came out too. We spent some time walking around outside enjoying the warm weather and admiring the peafowl that roam the zoo.
We eventually found our way into the Swamp! The kids enjoyed pretending this place was their home, where they lived with the red-bellied water snakes, among the logs and green undergrowth.
Zoey and I went through the swamp 3 times and each round we made drew her to to the Lubber Grasshoppers and the ducks wading in what she called "the tub".
And she made it a point to play in the wooden canoe as if she were riding it through this great swamp.
Many of the animals in this swamp were injured in the wild and are now cared for at the Brookfield Zoo. It was nice to learn about these animals together, with our children and on a truly successful and fun-filled Saturday.
